About Us:

Felton Hardware storefront in 1968, a small-town hardware store serving the Felton community
If Felton Hardware doesn’t have it, you probably don’t need it.

Felton Hardware is a three generation, family-owned business.

Leon & Mabel Jean Donovan purchased a small hardware store in Felton in 1962, and it has grown with our family for more than 60 years.

Here at Felton Hardware, we have all the nostalgia of an old-time hardware store, while still being fully stocked with tools, materials, and supplies at competitive prices.

Leon and Mabel Jean Donovan, founders of Felton Hardware and longtime community members

Leon began his time in hardware working for his Uncle Eddie at Taylor’s Hardware in Harrington. Later, he stepped out on his own and bought Felton Hardware from John Marion McGinnis, its former owner. He & Mabel Jean spent their years in business serving their community and helping their neighbors.

Leon was the heart & soul of the hardware store, and his quiet, steady wisdom is much missed. Mabel Jean was known for her no-nonsense personality and strong work ethic. They went home to be with Jesus in 2019 and 2022.

Rod and Sharon Donovan at Felton Hardware, continuing the family hardware store tradition

In 2012, Leon’s son Rod took the lead in the business. He has continued building our family legacy of serving the community, with more than 50 years in the store (and counting).

If you visit the store, you’ll probably find Rod chatting and joking with customers, drawing from the well of his years of hardware store wisdom. Rod’s wife Sharon also lends a hand, filling stock on the shelves and keeping our springtime flowers watered & healthy.

Rod’s son Alex has been a fixture at the store since he was 5, and he’s learned the ins & outs of the hardware business over the past 30 years.

You can usually find Alex helping customers solve problems, managing inventory, and tying up loose ends. His wife Kate is the resident techie, and can sometimes be found in the office working on the computer.

The rest of our team is made up of a crew of steady & devoted members, many of whom have been with us for a very long time:

  • Wesley Dill leads the pack of long-term crew members, having been a steady presence at the store for over 20 years.

  • Barbara Landrum is a tremendous asset when it comes to inventory management.

  • Randy Dill is a quiet, steady fellow who helps keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

  • Sara Burton brings enthusiasm and friendliness to the sales floor.

  • Wyatt Freeman brings a willing attitude and a strong work ethic, always ready to help wherever needed.

  • We also have a crew of teenagers who stay busy helping stock shelves, guiding customers, taking inventory, pumping propane, and the like — all while picking up a little bit of good ol’ fashioned hardware store know-how along the way.
